Evacuation Plan

The Sherwood Forest Estates Emergency Evacuation Plan:

Sherwood Forest Estates Fire District Evacuation Plan

1.   The decision to evacuate will be made by either the Chair of the SFE Fire District Board or the Fire Chief in cooperation with the US Forest Service, the Coconino County Sheriff’s Department, and the members of the SFE FD.

 2.   The signal to evacuate will be by continuously honking horns of fire trucks and verbal notification.

 3.   As you leave your residence please tie a white towel on the front door knob, or mailbox, as we will know the home has been vacated.

 4.   We have two escape routes.  One is our main entrance out the south end of Friar Tuck. The alternate emergency exit is out the south end of Minstrel through Mountain Rose Ranch.  (The Fire Department has keys to the gate at the south end of Minstrel.)

 5.   Someone will be at the exit to direct you for which route to use to get to the registration/reception area and have you sign out indicating you are leaving the subdivisions.

 6.   Please proceed to the registration/reception area and sign in.  If you wish to leave from the registration/reception area after signing in, you may, but please sign in.

 7.   The County Sheriff will provide security for you home while you are away.

 8.   The County Sheriff will notify us when it is safe to return home.  You may also call 211 for updated conditions.

Preparing for Evacuation

 1.   During fire season, park your vehicle facing out.

 2.   Tune your radio or television to a local station to keep updated about conditions.  Listen for the continuous honking of the fire trucks that would announce the need to evacuate the subdivisions.

      g.   Change of clothes and personal hygiene items

      h    Special dietary needs

      i.    Purse and/or billfold

      j.    White towel or pillowcase to tie to the front door knob when you leave

 4.   If you have time, as you leave:

      a.   Turn off the propane tank

      b.   Close drapes and blinds

      c.   Turn on exterior lights

      d.   Lock all doors and windows

 5.   As you leave, sign out.  Proceed to the staging area and sign in there.

 6.   Agree in advance with other household members that if they are not at home when the evacuation takes place, then they will meet you are the staging area.
